Apple iPad vs Amazon Kindle DX - Will Kindle survive?

So it's finally out... the name for Apple's tablet has been announced - iPad. This also end a series of rumours that's lingering for the longest time.

Will the iPad kill the Kindle?

Not immediately in my opinion. Unless Apple is able to extend the battery life of iPad to 50-60 hrs I believe there's still a market for Kindle.

But Kindle is unlikely to be big in Asia as where I come from we are more into multimedia than just plain reading - which is what Amazon's Kindle does best.

And the plus point...just like a book, you will probably get your Kindle back when you lose it. That's not gonna happen for the iPad.

I believe no one on the planet at this point of time or even for the next 2-3 years will beat Apple in terms of User Interface (UI), Product Design & their "supply chain based launch-to-market" product strategy. Creating a whole eco-system around their products even before launching them will set their competitors miles apart..Steve (& the Apple team) is definitely a genius!

Below are some specs of Kindle vs iPad:

So watch out Amazon...the new kid on the "pad" is going to hit your Kindle real hard soon if you don't do something drastic about it...

Apple Media Event on 27th Jan 2010 - iSlate Demo?

This seems so real...

Hitler on the iSlate 'Apple Media Event'

This is funny...

Apple Media Event on 27th Jan 2010 - Wishlist anyone? iTablet?? iPad?

7 Hours more...Apple Media Event on 27th Jan 2010

Will there be iLife '10 tomorrow morning?? And an Apple Tablet priced at sub SGD1400? iPod Touch with camera & IP telephony (Skype) maybe?? What's after Snow Leopard? New iPhone OS upgrade? Quite sure future iPhones will have teleconferencing feature but not tomorrow...maybe the tablet will have that...

A super thin tablet running Mac OS X with video conferencing will be an excellent tool for the doctors/medical line/logistics & also students...but have to be super robust & scratch-proof though... nothing new actually just that Apple have the best UI...much much better adoption since most people are familiar with iPhone UI. Oracle actually have iReceipt that users can scan receipts (orders & claims) on iPhone & send back to their Oracle system securely...

McGraw-Hill CEO Terry McGraw 'confirms' Apple tablet

More Spoilers for Apple's Media Event on 27 Jan 2010...
CEO Terry McGraw told the TV network that the company has worked with Apple for "quite awhile" on making content for the tablet and that "95 percent" of its e-books will be available. It should run a variant of the iPhone OS and will therefore let users transfer content between platforms.
While he stopped short of describing the tablet itself, McGraw complimented Apple for its work and said it would be "really terrific."

Executives have been known to occasionally overstate their connections to Apple in such slips, but the talk is likely to have confirmed virtually all the major rumors circulating around tomorrow's Apple gathering, including an emphasis on education as well as talks with news outlets to bring magazines, newspapers and other content to iTunes. Many still anticipate the tablet having a media-heavy focus and support for iPhone apps.

Lin Chi Ling (林志玲) Osim uSoffa inspired by Apple's Fruity iMac Ad?

After watching the latest OSIM uSoffa TV Ad starring Taiwanese hottie Lin Chi Ling (林志玲) certainly reminds me of Apple's G3 iMac ads. Both are leading brands in their industry. Of course, the latter is lot more prominent than the former.

Apple's G3 (3rd generation PowerPC-based iMac) Advert

In fact, sometime back OSIM released a range of product-line called "iLife" which incidentally is the same as Apple's standard suite of multimedia bundled with every newly purchased mac. Apple's iLife consist of iMovie, iPhoto, iDVD, iWeb & Garageband. Shortly after, OSIM changed their naming convention to "u" instead of "i".

(funny) Korean DHL commercial

This one is funny... Some stuff are better if it's delivered in person...

Nolboo Hangari Galbi Korean Restaurant in Orchard Central

We were all set for a sumptuous Korean dinner at Orchard Central.
I understand that Nolboo Hangari Galbi is one of the largest restaurant outlet chain in Korean. Pretty much like our Crystal Jade chain of restaurant.

How to Download Podcasts to your iPhone & iTunes

A number of non-US iphone & iTunes users are compaigning that they can't download podcasts onto their iPhone or Mac.

        There is actually a workaround.

The idea is to make sure your iTunes account is "temporarily" set to US when you need to download your podcast.

Below are a summary of the steps:

1)    Run Apple iTunes (Mac or Windows) & click on the "iTunes Store" icon on the left.

2)    Log out of your iTunes account. Click on your account name & select Sign Out. Or select "Store" from the Menu Bar on the top --> select "Create Account" --> Click on "Continue"

3)    Click on "If your billing address is not in Singapore, click here"

4)     Under " Select a country or region:" --> Choose "US" & click on "Change Country"

5)    Click on "Podcast" icon on the left & select "Podcast Directory" on the bottom right

6)    Type in your desired podcast title on the search (magnifying glass icon aka Spotlight) top right corner

7) Voila! Start download your podcasts

7)     Connect your iPhone --> Click on "Podcasts" tab on the top & select what you want iTunes to sync with your iPhone. Quite sure by now you should be able to continue : )

Controversial Acronyms for Pop Groups - Satanic Backmasking & Worship

In the 80s, there were a lot of controversies on Satanic Backmasking of pop songs & even on the acronyms of the pop groups.

I wasn't a Christian then but was somewhat very curious about the whole hoo-ha thingy of christian groups protesting against satanic cults & pop groups...

Actually a number of those alleged pop groups were my favourites even though I wasn't much of a music fan. Below are some disturbing (scary to some) acronyms found on the internet:

1)     Pet Shop Boys - Pray Eternally To Satan, He Offers Peace, But Owns Your Soul.
2)     KISS - Knights in Satan's Service
3)     W.A.S.P - We Are Sex Perversts
4)     Beastie Boys - Boy Entering Anarchistic States Towards Internal Excellence
5)         AC/DC - Anti-Christ Devil's Children. It's also a slang for Bi-sexual

Backmasking is a recording technique in which a sound or message is recorded backward onto a track that is meant to be played forward. Backmasking is a deliberate process, whereas a message found through phonetic reversal may be unintentional.
